For the last eight years, IW Books has been a small press that was...well, small. Most of our work with outside authors has been through our eclectic series of anthologies.
IW Books wants to be a force for high-quality, hand-crafted, artisanal fiction. No AI-generated books or covers. No sales plan to flood the market with books as quickly as we can. Our goal is to be a quality publisher of science fiction and fantasy.
And so, we embark on what I can only call the next step. We have created a slush pile for novels. A place for the unheard artisans of the world to submit their work. A place where we can filter that work into the sort of high-quality entertainment we have provided in our anthologies to date. We know we can find and edit good fiction. We have a series of anthologies that have been profitable. We have larger names gravitating towards us because of our commitment to quality. To editing. To cover art made by a human for your book. And, let's face it, to the fact that we're willing to put our own money behind this, because we believe that there will be an audience for good fiction even if it doesn't savvily manipulate any algorithms. You don't pay us a dime (except if you're buying physical books). We're not a vanity press. With IW Books, authors will be paid in coin of the realm as an advance. It might not be a huge advance--the amount will vary depending on a number of factors. But there will be money that flows to the author as soon as the editing process is complete. IW Books will pay for the editing and the cover art. And people will see the IW Logo on your book. We are growing our reputation. That goofy-looking walrus hanging by his tusk? It means something. It means that a reader holds in their hands a book that has a team of people who care about it, and who want that reader to come back for more. We are swamped by fans at tables asking when we're going to put out more stuff. The answer is that it begins now. And, who knows...it might begin with you. Submit here.
